How Is flower consumed?
Smoking is the primary method of cannabis flower consumption. To do it, break the flower buds or nuggets into small crumbles using one’s hands or grinder. Is Cannabis helpful in treating health conditions?
Cannabis or “cannabinoids may help treat certain rare forms of epilepsy, nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy, and loss of appetite and weight loss associated with HIV/AIDS. In addition, some evidence suggests modest benefits of cannabis or cannabinoids for chronic pain and multiple sclerosis symptoms. Cannabis isn’t helpful for glaucoma. Extract vs. Concentration
Identifying between an extract and concentration depends on how compounds are extracted from the cannabis plant. A solvent-based extraction that involves adding a solvent to dissolve the concentrated part of the cannabis plant and leaves behind extracts of shatter and vape oil is categorized as an extract.
Meanwhile, a solventless extraction involves the pressing, beating, and rubbing out of the plant resulting in kief, rosin, or wax. This yields a cannabis concentrate.
What Is Used in Extracting Cannabis?
For solvent-based extraction, hydrocarbons, CO2, and alcohol are commonly used. For solventless extraction, mechanical methods, ice water extraction, and heat and pressure are used.

Cannabis topicals are non-intoxicating Cannabis-infused balms, creams, lotions, oils, salves, gels, and transdermal patches that are applied to the skin to target the localized relief of pain, inflammation, and skin concerns.
New Mexico Regulations for Cannabis Users
* Cannabis is legal under state law for adults 21 and up. The use of both adult and medical cannabis is legal in New Mexico.*
The Cannabis Regulation Act allows the possession of up to two ounces of cannabis—or its equivalent in each of the following forms: 16 grams of concentrated marijuana or 800 milligrams of edibles—legal on June 29, 2022. Homegrown cannabis also became legal on the same date. Under this method of growing cannabis at home, adults can cultivate up to 6 mature and 6 immature cannabis plants, with a maximum of 12 mature plants per household.
Last April 1, 2022, adult-use customers are now able to purchase two ounces of cannabis or its equivalent in other forms.
Prohibited Conduct and Penalties
- Take note that smoking cannabis in public is punishable by law, and will be required to pay a $50 fine.
- Possession in public of more than two ounces but less than eight ounces of cannabis (16-65 grams of concentrates and 800-3,299 milligrams) is punishable by a year in jail. For individuals caught in much greater quantities, it will be considered a felony.
- For minors caught carrying marijuana, a penalty of 4 hours of community service or 4 hours of drug education and legal rights programs are required for them to attend.
- Driving under the influence of marijuana is still illegal.
- When it comes to transporting cannabis across other state lines is a violation of Federal law.
New Mexico Cannabis DUI Laws
Patients taking advantage of cannabis treatment are still not permitted to drive under the influence of cannabis. Driving under the influence of any drug is a major violation of state law, and a consequence is waiting after.
If you are arrested for DUI and are refusing to take a drug test, your license will be automatically confiscated at the scene and will be revoked for up to one whole year. The first DUI offense can result in up to 90 days in prison with a $500 fine. Plus, additional offenses can be punishable by longer prison terms and higher fines.
Taxation, Revenue Distribution, and Fees
An excise tax will be levied on all retail sales in the state of New Mexico. On the day of July 1, 2025, the increase of each point will be given every year. There will be an increase of one percent per year, maxing out at 185 on July 1, 2030. The tax does not apply to any sales to registered patients, caregivers, or visiting patients from other states.
One-third of the cannabis excise tax will automatically go to the municipality where the sales and production are made. While the other third of the cannabis excise tax revenue will go to the county where it is also made.
Gross receipt taxes that range from 5.125% to 8.8125%, depending on the location in the state — apply to adult-use, but not medical, cannabis.
